What a human being should be able to do…

urban survivalWhen it comes to urban survival, there’s an entire litany of things a person must be able to do but why should we at Holistic Survival put it into our own words when a master of the language has already done it for us?

Courtesy of Robert Heinlein:

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

We like that enough to repeat it. “Specialization is for insects.” Hear hear! This falls perfectly in line with our thinking that you better get busy learning self-sufficiency over the spectrum of skills because the nanny state in the form of the federal government is a house of cards built on a pile of quicksand right now.

In other words, don’t expect Uncle Obama to take care of you. We’re spending dollars we don’t have and there’s not much chance we ever will again, while having our economy propped up by the largesse of a massive communist nation’s continued willingness to buy our treasury bills. When they stop, America becomes nothing more than a historical footnote.
