5 Critical Elements of Modern Survival

HolisticSurvival.comFor those new to the game of thinking in terms of modern survival, the process of becoming “ready” can be overwhelming. Food storage, weapons, water source – the list goes on. How can a newbie hope to ever figure out what’s most important and what he should do first? Our first suggestion is not to run out and immediately spend a lot of money on items you may or may nor need immediately. We suggest to take care of the following five critical elements to modern survival while you research a further plan of attack.

1. Job – The unfortunate truth is that it takes money to pay for day-to-day expenses incurred by either a single individual or a family. If you have a passive source of income that doesn’t require you to join the rat race, congratulations. The rest of us must consider the first order of business finding and maintaining a regular source of income.

2. Shelter – Being homeless in Key West might be cool but, in reality, you need a home base, a roof over your head, and a place to call home. It not only offers a home base from which to build a protective perimeter, but the value of a good night’s sleep out of the element’s should not be underestimated.

3. Water – Even before food, a source of clean water is of primary importance. Humans can live for weeks without food but only days without water. Urban dwellers sometimes overlook a great source of water that can be boiled for drinking: your waterbed!

4. Food – It might be nothing more than a closet full of military rations (MRE’s), but you need a source of food in the event of a major catastrophe. Food is energy and energy is the will to survive and think with a clear head.

5. Security – Take whatever measures necessary to insure the security of your person and home. Consider learning the basics of personal self defense, procuring a pistol and rifle, and installing a security system. and don’t forget the ammunition. Without it, a pistol is nothing but a very lame club, and a rifle not much better.
