Take Care of Beans, Bullets, and Band-Aids for City Survival

Bookmark and Share

city survivalThough city survival during emergency conditions is a little more problematical than the country, it can still be done. With less storage space, it requires a bit more creativity to figure out where to stash everything but the process remains the same. You’re going to need to take care of your beans, bullets, and Band-Aids. Put another way – food, protection, and first aid.

Beans: If the food supply in your city was suddenly interrupted in a major way, such as no food on grocery store shelves, you’re going to be in a world of hurt if you’re not prepared with a food stock of your own. The problem arises if you live in a one bedroom, or worse, studio apartment. Not much room to stash a food supply. Suggestion? City survival requires creativity. You can stuff a bunch of Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) under a bed, in a closet, or even in the trunk of your car. Maybe even consider a self-storage unit within walking distance. The stackability and durability of MREs makes them a handy choice those with little additional storage space. Tasty? Not especially. But they’ll keep you alive.

Bullets: We’ve suggested the following before in these pages. There’s really no need to keep an entire arsenal tucked away for personal defense. A pistol and rifle should do nicely. One for close range and the other to reach out and touch someone from farther away, or for game hunting. What you need to stock up on is ammunition because, without that, your firearm is a useless chunk of metal.

Band-Aids: A good first aid kit is a no-brainer. If you think you don’t have space for one in your apartment, you’re wrong. Make space. If there is no food on the grocery shelves, chances are, there are no medical supplies either. You might not feel up to performing major surgery but you can accomplish a lot with a good supply of Band-Aids, tape, aspirin, splints, rubbing alcohol, etc.

There you go. City survival is just like country survival, only with less space. The basics are still the same, you just have to figure out where to put them. Might be worth upgrading to a larger apartment and using one room for “Survivor Central.”

Just an idea.
