The Boy Scouts had it right – “Be prepared.”

Jason recently discussed emergency preparedness on Holistic Survival show #2 with expert Greg Friese. The topic arose of emergency medical kits. Is one enough or do you need more? For the modern survivalist, it’s a good idea to have one in your home, car, business, even your second home or on vacation when you travel. If you’re going into the woods, it makes sense to have more than just a basic kit.

Next, you should consider taking a basic CPR course. These days it’s an easy 30 minute process from the American Red Cross. Learn the Heimlich Maneuver, how to clear an air passageway, etc. Come on – thirty minutes, save someone’s life. Not a bad trade, huh?

If you’re ready to get uber-prepared, you might be interested in the Wilderness first aid course offered at www.wildmed.com. This two day school teaches you how to recognize and treat both serious injuries you don’t see often and more common ailments like muscular/skeletal problems, allergies, heat or cold exposure.

In an emergency situation, the knowledge you’ve taken the time to acquire could be the difference in life or death for the people you love.
